As you know, in October we conducted a major fund-raising campaign to raise cash and pledges for our building plan called “A Time to Build”.
You may recall that the plan was to demolish the old section of our campus, build a new building for Student Ministry, Nursery and Offices; and renovate the Worship Center and Foyer. Total cost for the whole project is $4.9 million.
On Oct 30, we announced the result of our fund-raising campaign. We raised $1.5 million: $600,000 in cash and $900,000 in pledges. That is a fantastic outcome, and we praise God for his continuing blessings!
We did not raise enough money to do the whole project. However, we now have $2.7 million in cash and $900,000 in pledges, for a total of $3.6 million.
After reviewing the options with the architect and contractor over the last few weeks, we have decided to proceed with what we call “Phase 1”: Demolish the old section of our campus, build a new building for the Student Ministry, Nursery and Offices, and tie it into the existing foyer and parlor; no changes would be made to the Worship Center at this time. The cost estimate for Phase 1 is $3.3 million.
We have enough money in cash and pledges to build Phase 1. However, we can only proceed if we all make the contributions we have pledged to make on January 1 and April 1. Over the next several weeks, we will remind you to make your contributions for amounts you pledged to make on January 1. You can write a check payable to “TBC” and write “Time to Build” in the memo line (or pick up an envelope at the Connection Desk), or pay on-line through TBC’s website, or make a stock transfer to TBC through TBC’s Merrill Lynch account (call Bill or Nancy for instructions). Also, if you desire your contribution to be part of your 2016 giving it must be received by TBC on or before December 31, 2016, whether by check, on-line or stock transfer.
As for timing of Phase 1, the architect will start immediately to prepare the final permit drawings. These will be submitted to the City of Tomball for approval in January. We expect demolition of the old section to start in April/May, followed by construction of the new building for Nursery, Student Ministry and Offices, with completion of Phase 1 targeted for the 4th quarter of 2017.
This is an exciting development for our church. It’s a great opportunity to make much-needed improvements in our facility, and enable our campus to once again facilitate our purpose: To glorify Christ by making mature disciples to reach the nations.
We encourage all of our congregation to continue to pray for God’s direction for our church, and to give thanks to God for his abundant blessings.
